A report by SBM Intelligence reveals that between July 2025 and June 2026, Nigeria recorded 1,713 kidnap and kidnap-related incidents, resulting in at least 1,142 deaths and 7,825 abductions. The report, titled 'The capture of the kidnap economy,' also states that a total of N7.8 billion was paid as ransom during the period. The findings indicate a 66% surge in kidnappings compared to previous periods.
