In Kenya, more women and newborns die from poor-quality care than from lack of access to it

A 2024 assessment in Kenya has found that more women and newborns die due to poor-quality care rather than lack of access to health facilities. Michael Moneypenny, Regional Director for Aga Khan's Centre for Innovation in Medical Education, noted that while more people reach facilities, the care they receive is often inadequate. In response, Kenya is shifting focus to improving the skills of health workers, including through simulation-based training centers.
