The Federal Government has warned that 915 communities across 19 states and the Federal Capital Territory are at critical risk of flooding between August 27 and September 9, 2026. The National Flood Early Warning Systems Centre classified these communities as requiring immediate watch and preparedness. Additionally, 429 communities in seven states are at high risk, and 656 communities in 13 states are on moderate-risk watch. Affected states include Kogi, Benue, Rivers, Edo, Delta, and others.
