The Select Committee on Security and Justice has welcomed the Department of Home Affairs' progress in addressing visa-related backlogs. The committee emphasised that clearing overdue applications must be accompanied by reforms to prevent future backlogs. The DHA identified sustained demand and capacity constraints as key factors. As of 28 July 2026, there were 21,847 pending appeals, with 60.2% overdue.
