Nigeria: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Meets with the Vice President of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission

On 26 August 2026, Thailand's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkeow, met with Mrs. Damtien Tchintchibidja, Vice President of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission, at the ECOWAS Secretariat in Abuja, Nigeria. The Deputy Prime Minister reiterated Thailand's commitment to the Thailand-Africa Initiative (TAI), which aims to strengthen South-South cooperation with African nations through practical partnerships in political, economic, development, and multilateral cooperation. The two sides exchanged views on strengthening collaboration between Thailand and ECOWAS, particularly in food security, tourism, human resource development, and public health. They also recognised the importance of trade and investment cooperation, with plans for a Thailand-Nigeria business event to be jointly organised by the Thai side and the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
