Allison Skidmore, a wildlife criminologist and National Geographic Explorer, has gone undercover in Russia, Malaysia, and the Horn of Africa to investigate illegal wildlife poaching and trafficking. She began her career as an anti-poaching ranger in South Africa's Kruger National Park and later conducted doctoral research on Amur tiger poaching in Russia's Far East. Skidmore explained to Business Insider the mechanics of wildlife trafficking, including how traffickers exploit transit hubs and launder money. She founded an organization dedicated to combating wildlife crime.
