The Kano State Government has assured residents that water will flow again from the Challawa Water Treatment Plant by December, following over a decade of disruption. Commissioner for Water Resources, Environment and Climate Change, Dr. Dahir Muhammad Hashim, gave this assurance during an inspection of the Challawa facility and Goron Dutse reservoirs, where rehabilitation works are nearing completion. He noted that the plant, which has a capacity of 220 million litres, was operating at less than 30 percent capacity but aims to be restored to 100 percent by December. The plant supplies 51 percent of water demand in Greater Kano and had been crippled by vandalisation and neglect.
