Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, has challenged the Nigerian government's claim that over N600 billion has been disbursed in cash transfers to vulnerable households. In a statement issued by his aide, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku noted that the government had announced a payment of N25,000 monthly for three months per household, which would total N75,000 per household. He argued that if 10 million households received the full payment, the total would be about N750 billion, and if 15 million households received it, the total would exceed N1.1 trillion, making the government's figure inconsistent with its own stated payment structure. Atiku questioned how many households received one, two, or all three tranches, and how many payments failed or were reversed.
