Nigeria’s economy stable, debt service declining – Oyedele

Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, has stated that Nigeria's economy has stabilized, with a real GDP growth rate of 3.89% in Q1 2026, up from 3.13% a year earlier. He projected that GDP growth would exceed 4% in 2026, and noted that inflation had declined to 15.43% by the end of July, compared to 24.94% a year earlier. Oyedele also reported that Nigeria's trade surplus nearly doubled from N17.7 trillion in 2025 to N34.7 trillion by Q1 2026, and that public debt remained moderate.
