The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has expanded its transmission capacity through over $1.4 billion in multilateral and development financing, adding more than 8,500 megavolt-amperes (MVA) of transformer capacity to the national grid. The company currently has 8,700 megawatts (MW) of wheeling capacity and recorded a peak transmission of 5,801.84MW on March 4, 2025. TCN has commissioned 89 new transformers across the country. However, vandalism, ageing assets, and funding constraints for manpower and logistics remain major challenges.
