Nigeria's youth population, estimated at over 50 million people aged 16 to 35, represents a significant demographic force. However, the implications of this demographic reality are not fully appreciated by policymakers or within the democratic system. Nigerian democracy is at a critical juncture, with political actors extracting resources for private gain and citizens' trust in institutions eroding. The reliability of free and fair elections is inconsistent, as exemplified by differing perceptions of INEC across states. As the 2027 general elections approach, the youth, as the largest population bloc, need to organize to address these systemic issues.
