Brannon Potts, a Gen-Xer in his late 40s, turned to real estate after realizing he was behind on retirement savings. In 2020, he started with $15,000 of his own money to purchase land and build rental properties, a strategy he calls 'build-to-rent.' Today, he owns 14 properties, which he estimates are worth about $3.5 million based on appraisals. Potts builds and designs each rental himself, aiming to generate cash flow and secure his financial future.
