Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that diplomacy with the United States remains possible if Washington abandons its pressure campaign. The comments come six months into a conflict that has disrupted the Middle East. Mediators including Pakistan and Qatar have attempted to broker peace, with a ceasefire agreed in April and a memorandum of understanding signed in June, but no final deal has been reached. Araghchi met his Qatari counterpart in Tehran to discuss the Strait of Hormuz, which Iran closed at the start of the war.
