The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) honored commanders of the ECOWAS Monitoring Group (ECOMOG) for their roles in restoring peace in Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Guinea-Bissau. The commission also recognized two Nigerian journalists killed in Liberia. The awards were presented at the unveiling of a book documenting the wars and peace efforts. The ceremony took place in Abuja, over two decades after peace was restored.
