The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has suspended bulk power transmission to Niamey, Niger Republic, through the 132kV Birnin Kebbi-Niamey transmission line after three transmission towers collapsed. The towers, T109, T110 and T111, collapsed at Chibike village in Kebbi State due to heavy rainfall and windstorms. The line tripped at 5:38pm on August 26, 2026, and a trial reclosure was unsuccessful. TCN has declared force majeure on the affected line and mobilised personnel for repairs.
