President Cyril Ramaphosa is scheduled to deliver the keynote address at the Volkswagen Group Africa (VWGA) 75th Anniversary Gala Dinner on Monday, 31 August 2026, at the Volkswagen Plant in Kariega, Nelson Mandela Bay, Eastern Cape. The event, themed 'A Legacy in Motion: Honouring the past, celebrating today, driving tomorrow,' commemorates 75 years of Volkswagen's operations in South Africa. The first Volkswagen Beetle was produced at the Kariega plant, then known as Uitenhage, on 31 August 1951. Over the past 75 years, the plant has produced nearly 40 different models and built more than 4.8 million vehicles.
