The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is following up on more than 1,500 cases of missing persons in Yobe State, according to the Head of the ICRC Sub-Delegation in Damaturu, Syed Rashid Hassan. He disclosed this at an event commemorating the 2026 International Day of the Disappeared. The figure is part of over 17,000 missing-person cases the ICRC is tracking in Nigeria, with more than half of those reported missing being children at the time of their disappearance. Hassan noted that the numbers likely represent only a fraction of the total missing persons across the country.
