The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has warned of a potential fresh surge in cholera cases between late August and October. The agency has recorded over 65,000 suspected cases across 35 states and about 195 local government areas this year. NCDC Director-General Dr Jide Idris emphasized that while the decline in deaths is encouraging, ongoing transmission and risks from flooding, unsafe water, and poor sanitation could reverse progress. He called for continued vigilance and consolidation of gains made so far.
