A new initiative between Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) and Cameroon's Ministry of Health aims to place communities at the heart of cholera prevention efforts. Launched in November 2024 in Djoungolo, a neighbourhood of Yaoundé regularly affected by cholera, the project addresses factors contributing to the disease's resurgence and transmission. Community cleaning days, already established by neighbourhood chiefs, are part of the prevention measures. The initiative builds on existing local capacities to strengthen prevention against recurring outbreaks since October 2021.
