The Kano State Government has disputed a claim by a lawmaker that 50 children died from diphtheria in Rano Local Government Area, stating that only two deaths have been confirmed in 2026. The member representing Rano Constituency, Ibrahim Muhammad, had alleged the higher figure. The Director-General of the Kano State Centre for Disease Control (KNCDC), Professor Muhammad Adamu Abbas, described the claim as 'unverified and misleading' in a statement on Friday. He explained that surveillance records show Rano recorded 32 diphtheria cases between July 2023 and August 2026, with two deaths in the area.
