AU-IBAR, through the European Union-funded Fisheries Governance Project Phase Two (FishGov2), held a capacity-building training in Cape Town from 23 to 24 July 2026 to institutionalise and operationalise the African Fisheries and Aquaculture Database (AFAData). Sixteen participants attended, including national technical officers from South Africa's Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, the SADC Secretariat, and AU-IBAR. AFAData is a continental repository for fisheries and aquaculture data, now operational and open to all African Union Member States.
