The Federal Government has activated an emergency task force to contain a diphtheria outbreak affecting children in parts of Katsina and Kano States. The directive was issued by the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, as part of ongoing efforts to protect children's health. The task force, co-chaired by the Director-General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) and the Director of Public Health, will coordinate response measures. Immediate actions include strengthening surveillance, closing immunisation gaps, and ensuring timely access to treatment.
