The Chairman of the National Population Commission (NPC), Aminu Yusuf, has died at the age of 66 after a prolonged illness. Yusuf passed away barely eight months after taking over as substantive chairman of the commission. Born on April 15, 1960, in Wushishi, Niger State, he was appointed by President Bola Tinubu in October 2025 and sworn in on December 2, 2025. Before his appointment, Yusuf served as Special Adviser on Political Affairs to the Niger State Governor from 2019 to 2023, and had previously been Chairman of Wushishi Local Government Area and a member of the Niger State House of Assembly.
