Nigeria's upstream petroleum industry is showing renewed activity, with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) recording increased rig deployment and progress on the Bonga South-West/Aparo deepwater project. Data from the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) show the total rig count reached 73 in March 2026, up from 72 in January and February. Land operations accounted for 52 rigs, while offshore activity also improved, indicating growing confidence in the sector.
