The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has reported that it is following up on over 1,500 cases of missing persons in Yobe State, part of more than 17,000 such cases across Nigeria. Syed Rashid Hassan, head of the ICRC sub-delegation in Damaturu, stated that more than half of those missing were children at the time of their disappearance. He noted that the figures may represent only a fraction of the actual number, as over 513,000 people were registered missing worldwide by the end of 2025.
