The federal government has assured that the 284-kilometre Kano-Katsina railway project will be completed and commissioned by December 2026, despite earlier challenges such as insecurity, land disputes, and seasonal construction slowdowns. The assurance was given during a joint inspection by officials from the Federal Ministry of Transportation, Federal Ministry of Finance, lending institutions, and the contractor. The project is currently 80% physically complete, and a test run was conducted on the completed track from Kazauri to Katsina. The permanent secretary of the Ministry of Transportation, Funso Adebiyi, represented by Director of Rail Transport Services, Habibat Buhari, confirmed the progress.
