The federal government has activated an emergency task force to address a diphtheria outbreak affecting children in parts of Katsina and Kano states. As part of the immediate response, the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) has deployed 500,000 doses of vaccines to support intensified immunization activities in affected and at-risk communities. The ministry has directed the task force to strengthen surveillance, close immunization gaps, and ensure timely access to treatment. The directive was issued by the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, as part of the government's commitment to protecting public health.
