Sanction judges defying superior courts —Lawyers, activists tell NJC

Lawyers and activists have called on the National Judicial Council (NJC) to sanction judges who defy superior courts. They described the actions of such judges as judicial rascality, which occurs when a lower court judge ignores a pending appeal or disobeys an order from a higher court. In Nigeria's judicial hierarchy, lower courts must suspend proceedings when an appeal is lodged or a stay of proceedings is ordered. The NJC is urged to take disciplinary action against errant judges to uphold the rule of law.
