It’s a blessing being a Nigerian – Chief Isaac Shaahu

Chief Isaac Shaahu, one of the few surviving politicians from Nigeria's First Republic, shared his experiences with Weekend Trust. He was a member of the Northern House of Assembly and minority leader in 1964, later becoming a commissioner in various ministries of the old Benue-Plateau State between 1967 and 1973. He also served as minister of commerce and then communication during the Third Republic under President Shehu Shagari. Shaahu was among the 34 founders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and participated in the formation of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
