Questions over ranching, grazing reserves

Despite federal government directives to end open grazing, animals still roam urban areas, raising questions about the feasibility of ranching and grazing reserves. Nigeria's cattle industry remains largely free-range, even as the government selected five states and the FCT for a pilot National Ranching Policy. The policy aims to shift from nomadic herding to stationary ranching, requiring land, water, veterinary services, feed, security, and infrastructure. Two years after establishing the Ministry of Livestock Development, the government announced plans to rehabilitate 417 grazing lands.
