President Donald Trump announced on Friday a major oil agreement with Venezuela, granting the United States majority control of the country's proven petroleum reserves, estimated at 65 billion barrels. Trump described the deal as the largest in world history and stated it would bring nearly $100 billion in private investment to Venezuela. The agreement follows the U.S. ouster of long-time ruler Nicolas Maduro in January, with Washington allowing Vice President Delcy Rodriguez to serve as interim leader under U.S. conditions. Trump said the deal would more than double U.S. oil reserves.
