Aviation experts have raised concerns that indiscriminate construction of structures at airports is endangering aviation safety, following a runway excursion involving Enugu Air at Benin Airport. They highlighted that poorly sited buildings, including uncompleted ones, could interfere with safe aircraft operations. The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) found that an uncompleted building was obstructing the controller's line of sight towards the end of Runway 05. NSIB recommended that the NCAA ensure the control tower has an unrestricted view of all movement areas.
