The federal government has announced that the 284-kilometre Kano-Katsina railway project is 80% complete. The project is expected to be completed and commissioned by December 2026, despite challenges from insecurity, land disputes, and rainy season slowdowns. The assurance was given during a joint inspection by officials from the Federal Ministry of Transportation, Finance, lending institutions, and the contractor. The permanent secretary of the Ministry of Transportation, represented by the Director of Rail Transport Services, stated the project remains on course.
