Eritrea: Call for Reinforced Participation in Eradicating Harmful Practices

Mr. Gebrehiwet Tekeste, head of healthcare services in the Teseney sub-zone of Eritrea, has called for increased public participation in eradicating harmful practices. He noted that female genital mutilation and underage marriage are still practised in some areas, and awareness campaigns are being conducted in 11 administrative areas. He emphasized the need for religious leaders and administrators to play a stronger role. Ms. Hafisa Mohammed from the prosecutor's office reminded that these practices are prohibited under Eritrean law.
