Rescuers in Nepal and China are working to locate thousands of people missing after a deadly flood and debris flow swept through the Himalayan region, with the combined missing toll nearing 3,000 and 633 bodies recovered. The disaster, caused by a glacial collapse on the Tibet-Nepal border, has left rescue workers struggling in thick mud, as described by Kawan Koirala of the Nepal Scout Disaster Response Team. Some victims may have been swept downstream as far as India. The US Geological Survey attributed the event to a glacial collapse.
