Tension and sporadic gunshots were reported at the council headquarters of Anambra East Local Government Area during the Anambra State local government poll on Saturday. The ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) faced a challenge from the Young Progressives Party (YPP) in Anambra East, while APGA had no challengers in the other 20 local government areas. Hundreds of people gathered at Otuocha to monitor the distribution of election materials, but YPP claimed that security operatives refused to allow its members into the compound. The YPP collation agent, Chief Charles Ifediorah, alleged that his party's agents were not allowed to witness the exercise, describing it as a 'charade'.
