An Ecuadorian court has sentenced former President Lenin Moreno to five years in prison for accepting bribes linked to the construction of the Coca Codo Sinclair hydroelectric dam. Moreno, who served from 2017 to 2021, was among 20 people convicted in the corruption case involving Chinese company Sinohydro, which allegedly paid about $76 million in bribes. Moreno denied the allegations, stating he never received any money from Sinohydro. He blamed the case on his predecessor Rafael Correa, accusing him of seeking revenge.
