Yari: Subsidy can’t return, anyone promising it is deceiving Nigerians

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed calls for the return of petrol subsidy, with Senator Abdulaziz Yari, Director General of the APC 2027 Presidential Campaign Council, stating that any politician promising its restoration is deceiving Nigerians. Yari made this remark in response to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar's pledge to introduce a targeted subsidy system if elected in 2027. Atiku, now the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), argued that Nigerians have not seen clear evidence of how funds saved from subsidy removal are being utilized. Yari insisted that the subsidy system had become too costly and lacked transparency, reaffirming the APC's commitment to the economic reforms introduced by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
