Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo has dismissed former Vice President Atiku Abubakar's promise to reopen Nigeria's land borders if elected in 2027, insisting that the borders are already open. Tunji-Ojo said Atiku's claim conflates different episodes involving trade restrictions, security-related closures, and infrastructure limitations. He recalled that several major land borders, including Seme, Illela, Maigatari, and Mfum, were reopened on December 16, 2020, while Idiroko and Ikom were reopened on April 20, 2022. The minister stated that the current administration has continued to ensure border operations are functional.
