Niger Republic's junta said it gradually took back control after mutinying soldiers attacked key sites in the capital, including the presidential palace, following hours of heavy gunfire. Soldiers blocked access to the presidential palace and national television, with Tele Sahel going off air for over an hour. A security source said the presidential guard pushed back the insurgents. Defence Minister General Salifou Mody stated that a group of soldiers held some troops hostage and opened fire at sensitive sites, but the prompt reaction of defence forces restored order.
