The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) and the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) have urged the Senate President and the Speaker of the House of Representatives to reject and withdraw the Foreign Aids (Regulation, Transparency and Disclosure) Bill, 2026. The organizations argue that the bill is unnecessary, unlawful, and unconstitutional, and would threaten civic space, media freedom, and democratic participation. They claim it would establish extensive governmental control over civil society organizations, independent media, and religious groups receiving foreign assistance.
