Vanessa Banh, a 28-year-old former accountant turned entrepreneur, bought a four-bedroom house with a garage in Modesto, California, for $347,000 and converted it into two Airbnb properties. She then turned the garage into two additional units, making a total of four short-term rentals. Banh said she prefers earning extra money over living in one of the units.
