While most spending occurs in China, where the genre originated, US-based apps like CandyJar are seeing rapid growth, and mainstream platforms like Peacock are adding micro dramas to their offerings. The genre's success contrasts with the failure of Quibi, a similar short-form video app that flopped in 2020.
