At the 21st Extraordinary African Union Summit on conflict prevention and resolution in Luanda, the Chairperson of the AU Commission, Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, called for urgent reforms to Africa's peace and security architecture. He highlighted persistent crises in Sudan, eastern DRC, Somalia, the Sahel, Libya, northern Mozambique, and Madagascar, as well as emerging threats like terrorism and transnational crime. Youssouf emphasized the need for a stronger early-warning system, effective implementation of AU decisions, and sustainable financing for peace operations. He also stressed that partnerships with the UN must align with Africa's realities and expectations.
