The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has cautioned that former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar's proposal to restore fuel subsidy could exacerbate Nigeria's fiscal pressures and reverse gains from ongoing economic reforms. Yilwatda alleged that reintroducing the subsidy might lead to fuel queues, undermine the payment of the new minimum wage, and affect government funding for education and social services. He made these remarks in Abuja while receiving a delegation of economic stakeholders to discuss the state of the Nigerian economy and prospects for sustainable growth. The APC chairman emphasized that the fuel subsidy debate should be assessed based on the country's experience with the policy, particularly its impact on government revenue and funding for salaries, pensions, education, and infrastructure.
