Diphtheria: Kano gov’t takes active case search to communities with reported deaths

The Kano State Government has deployed rapid response teams to communities in Rano Local Government Area following reports of child deaths from diphtheria. The investigation confirmed four deaths, two from diphtheria and two from suspected malaria and typhoid fever, debunking earlier claims of 50 deaths. The Kano State Centre for Disease Control (KNCDC) led the verification and identified active and recovered cases. The government acted swiftly due to the scale of the rumour.
