Fatimatu Abdullahi, a grandmother in Jos, Plateau State, has recounted the deaths of her two grandchildren from diphtheria within a week. The victims, Umar Muktar (14) and Hauwa Shapi'u (17), lived with her before their deaths. Umar developed the illness first and died within days, followed by Hauwa two days later. The grandmother noted that they did not attend a specialized hospital, and the cause was initially unknown.
