Sheikh Haliru Maraya, a Kaduna-based Islamic scholar and former Special Adviser to two former governors of Kaduna State, has warned politicians seeking elective offices in 2027 against making unrealistic promises to Nigerians. Speaking against calls for the return of fuel subsidy, Maraya urged presidential aspirants to be honest about the country's economic challenges and what government can realistically afford. He cautioned politicians against exploiting the hardship experienced by Nigerians by making promises they may not be able to fulfil if elected.
