The Nigerian equities market experienced a decline of N2.5 trillion in August 2026, influenced by the Central Bank of Nigeria's revised Open Market Operations (OMO) framework that now allows individuals, corporates, and non-bank financial institutions to participate. Market capitalisation on the Nigerian Exchange Limited fell by 1.6 per cent to N155.8266 trillion from N158.326 trillion at the end of July. However, the market rebounded between August 27 and 28, gaining N1.67 trillion after Nigeria was reclassified to FTSE Russell's Frontier Market status, effective September 21, 2026.
