A presidential committee approved by President Bola Tinubu on August 19, 2026, has begun work on creating a unified National Threat Assessment and a rolling 5-Year Strategic Defence Operations Plan. The committee, inaugurated by Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume, aims to end fragmented security operations and tie defence procurement to operational priorities. Its terms of reference include reviewing security threats, defining operational priorities, and identifying capability gaps.
